Year 6 were all excited to complete a Design and Technology workshop this week on structures. It was run by STEM - who run many different workshops and visit Wellington in several year groups throughout the year.
The children had to learn how to make newspaper sheets into stiff rolls, which could be attached together to make very sturdy and strong structures. They had to have great listening and communication skills and work very well as a team to make enough rolls for their structure - which had to be big enough for their group of 5 to fit inside - without collapsing! This was quite a physical challenge too, as they had to use paper rolling machines (rather similar to an old fashioned mangle) to roll the sheets with glue. This was quite hard work!
The results were very impressive.
